Il comune di Bolzano è, dopo di Appiano e Caldaro, il terzo comune viticolo dell' Alto Adige. Due vini tipici bolzanini sicuramente sono tra le punte della produzione altoatesina: il Santa Maddalena ed il Lagrein, dove soprattutto l'ultimo ha avuto grande attenzione mediale negli ultimi anni.
Il clima caldo nella conca di Bolzano, i terreni profondi e sciolti, tanto lavoro e tanta passione nei vigneti bolzanini garantiscono la fuoriuscita di un vino pieno e scuro, con fantastiche note di violo, cioccolato, liquirizia, frutti di bosco e nell' età - tabacco. Nel "Select" questo carattere fruttato e, a causa di ricchi tannini dolci, vellutato viene arrotondito dall' utilizzo di barriques francesi. Le note del legno però non sono mai dominanti.
Il Lagrein si accompagna in modo ottimale con selvaggina e pietanze di carne speziate, nonchè con formaggi stagionati piccanti.
Si consigliano temperature di servizio tra i 20 ed i 22° C.
