Caratteristiche: Sangiovese, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon. L'inverno è stato caratterizzato da temperature miti e da precipitazioni superiori alla media, provocando un germogliamento anticipato che si è verificato durante gli ultimi giorni di marzo ed i primi di aprile. La primavera è stata caratterizzata da temperature miti e precipitazioni al di sopra della media. Le condizioni climatiche sono state ideali durante l'estate del 2002 fino alla metà del mese di agosto, dopodiché ci sono state precipitazioni superiori alla media, le quali hanno reso necessaria una selezione molto accurata in vigna durante la vendemmia. Le uve sono state vendemmiate durante i seguenti periodi: Merlot: durante la prima settimana di settembre Cabernet Sauvignon: dalla metà alla fine di settembre. Sangiovese: dalla fine di settembre all'inizio di ottobre. Ogni varietà è stata vinificata separatamente in piccole vasche di acciaio rispettando le differenti caratteristiche varietali durante le fasi della fermentazione (focalizzando l'attenzione sull'estrazione e sulla temperatura). Dopo la fermentazione alcolica ha proseguito quella malolattica, sempre in vasche di acciao. L'affinamento è durato 10 mesi in barriques di 2-4 anni, usate in precedenza per Masseto e Ornellaia. Le Volte è il risultato di una selezione dei migliori terroirs della Maremma e un blend della varietà autoctona tipicamente Toscana, il Sangiovese, con il Cabernet Sauvignon e Merlot. L'espressione Mediterranea del Sangiovese dà generosità al vino mentre il Cabernet Sauvignon ed il Merlot donano struttura e complessità .
