During this period, the wines were bottled 4 to 5 times during the wines life so there is much bottle variation. Maturation is in all large oak vats. 1971 was a warm vintage and it rained many times during the summer with perfect summer weather. Conditions reduced crop by 40 to 50%, so grapes are concentrated and sweet."

This was particularly true of this 2004, a very good year. The wine?s garnet color had a good intensity and the aromas were typical, linear and elegant with scents of licorice, tobacco and violet along with smoked notes just noticeable in the background. The mouthfeel was harmonious, with an almost salty acidity nicely held in check by the extracts. The tannins were just a tad dusty and distinct thanks to the wine?s relative youth and it is easy to see how the wine will improve with another three years in the bottle. The finish had a good persistence without any bitterness."

The aroma is decidedly balsamic and spicy with notes of crushed wild roses and whiffs of freshly cut medicinal herbs. The mouthfeel is velvety and caressing, indecent. The aftertaste is eternal. At auction this costs no less than 350-400 euros if well-preserved."

At an auction it fetches 250-300 euros (and is worth every penny if well-preserved)."
